How to choose the correct Window locking mechanism

There are a few types of locking mechanisms available on the market however the 2 main types would be inline mechanisms and offset mechanisms

What you first have to figure out if the gearbox is in the centre of the width of the mechanism or if it is pushed over to one side this will tell you if it is inline or offset

Next you will have to measure the backset of the mechanism this can be done by measuring from the edge of the lock to the center of the screw holes for the handle the most common sizes are 20mm and 22mm backset however some aluclad windows are 25mm backset

Finally you need to measure the length of the bar to have all the info you need to orderYou should then have something likeAn offset mechanism with a 22mm backset and 800mm longVideo attached where we explain this in detail - coming soon

How to choose your handle

There are a few different types of window handles and it is really easy to find out which you need

Firstly you need to know if you need a cranked or straight handle

Once you know this the next thing you need to know is the length of the spindle this is measured from the back of the handle to the end of the spindle. The most common sizes are 15mm 20mm 30mm and 40mm

If you are unsure about the size of the spindle you can order the longer spindle and cut it down if necessary this can be done with an angle grinder or a hacksaw
